MADISON AVENUE APARTMENT
NEW YORK, NY
2008
The intent of this Work was to cast a broad sweep across the 2800 square foot Upper East Side apartment to provide a general cleanup of a previous conversion executed several years prior as well as to address some of the family’s newer interests.
While the program included full renovation to the existing bathrooms and kitchen, as well as miscellaneous alterations and millwork throughout, the crux of the design centered around a previously awkward ”swing-space” which provides a recreation room for the children with an optional private guest room.
As is typical in many New York City buildings, the apartment was scattered with existing pipes, mechanical chases and structural elements. Our intervention engages these existing constraints, largely through the use of millwork, to effectively open up relationships between rooms.
